J*Davey – No More

If you know me or you’ve been around me enough, I’m sure you’ve heard me play this joint a few times. It is definitely soul music and some would say neo-soul, but I think of it as “sultry soul” with a feel that makes it easy to put on repeat and lose yourself in the rhythm, melody, and lyrics altogether or one by one. It’s your choice. The first time I heard it I was blown away, and I still am quick to put it on for people not knowledgeable to the music of J*Davey. They are a dynamic talent hailing from Los Angeles, and this song comes from their 2008 album entitled “The Beauty in Distortion/The Land of the Lost“. If you enjoy it I highly recommend checking out some of their other music. Thanks for reading and listening. Come back and check us out at 3GW.

DJ Supreme Soul – Quick Cookout Mix

Since today is the 4th of July, I figured I would make a mix that could be played at your local cookout, BBQ, family gathering, etc. I didn’t want to make it too long. Just something that could get your cookout started out on the right note. After all, you can’t have a successful cookout without good music and of course good food. So here is one part of the equation. The other part is on you. Happy 4th of July to you and yours.

John Legend – Who Do We Think We Are feat. Rick Ross

Here’s the official video for John Legend‘s first single off his upcoming 4th studio album Love In The Future. It features a verse from rapper Rick Ross and the video is one that seems to go for a vintage type of appeal. Legend spoke about it to Billboard saying,

“The song is about living life to the fullest. About not being afraid to be a risk-taker and to pursue your dreams. But it’s also about enjoying and luxuriating in your pursuits. So in some ways we made a fantasy video that shows some reveling… a little sex. It’s a gorgeous video that I think people will like.”

Check out the video and song below. The new Legend album is expected to hit stores in June 2013. Thanks for stopping by 3GW.

John Legend – All of Me

Following article written by Political K

During the season 9 finale of Grey’s Anatomy, I was pleasantly surprised to hear a new song by John Legend entitled All of Me.  Since that time I’ve been patiently waiting for the single to be released to avail so I decided to post a live version of the song instead.  Written about his fiancé, Chrissy Teigen, John Legend expresses why exactly he loves her.  According to Chrissy, “The first line of it is ‘What would I do without your smart mouth,’ so if that’s not about me I don’t know what is.”

During a recent interview about his upcoming album with Billboard, Love in the Future, John Legend was asked whether this album contained another hit along the lines of 2005’s R&B top five Ordinary People, and he cited All of Me.  He teased, “I don’t want to predict how big it will get but it’s in the same league.”  John’s fourth solo album, Love in the Future, is set to release on June 25th.

Robin Thicke – Blurred Lines

Here’s some semi-new music from Mr. Robin Thicke. This post may be a bit late as far as introducing some of his new material, but I say better late than never. I saw a glimpse of this video on a TV commercial not too long ago. Low and behold after doing an internet search I found that it was an actual video that had been made by Robin, and it had the added bonus of production from Pharrell and a verse from T.I.

Now I must say I thought the commercial was pushing the limits a bit by using very skimpy outfits on the women featured with the singer. But what I didn’t know is that the actual original video was pulled from YouTube due to its use of nude models. (Damn you YouTube!) Now since we are 90% wholesome here at 3GW, I will not post the nakedness featured in the original video. But, the other 10% will allow me to give you glimpse into what are some of the things featured in the video that possibly made it so taboo.

Make of that what you will, but the song is upbeat and talks about basically setting the woman free from being a good girl. Kind of reminds me of a Prince song in some ways, but maybe that’s just me. Blurred Lines is set to be on the upcoming 2013 album by Thicke, and if the rest of the album is like this then I see great things from it. Enjoy.
